I'm Twenty!

Yes, my birthday's juz over. Tired but fun. I crooned for 7 hours! It wasn't planned though.

Met shengyong, shiqian and qiyue at jec yesterday morning. I wanted to ice-skate, but sy had CO practice later and a competition (in dec?) and he doesn't want to jeopardise their chances of winning by injuring himself. So ice-skating was out. Heh, it appears that we all have this nagging feeling that if we fall, our fingers might get sliced off by some careless jerk who happens to be speeding our way. But the ring wasn't too crowded.. and I was somewhat adventurous yesterday anyway, but we settled for ktv in the end.

First time trying the k-box lunch deal; it was worth it! $6 per person for 3 hours. I think I can get quite delirious when I go ktv nowadays, especially when I can't hit the high notes, I would rather shriek and blast than sing an octave lower. And when we were singing Liu Xing Yu, F4 looked so deplorable in their flaming red costumes that I juz had to imitate their actions to make a dig at them. I don't dislike F4, juz that the way they are packaged is targeted at girls. Heh..

After qiyue left, one of the crew suddenly came into the room and gave us an extra mike, without telling us why. Muz be our lucky day! So now 3 of us each have a mike. Then weijie and lily came. I found out some of our favourites:

Went to compass point after that to meet jh. I actually wanted to organise something but response was poor, so in the end both of us juz met for dinner. Then yuanhin called to ask us out for ktv. Haaa more singing! WHy not =] The car got lost in punggol, in fact, in the more remote part of punggol. Wilderness on the right; flats on the left. Wonder how they got there from sk in the first place, but we sorted it out eventually. In the car was yh who had liang jing ru fetish, keith who could finally leave his house, elvin who was ready to crash a chalet at Downtown East and jx who had gaming fetish. Off to partyworld at cuppage. Junlin was there warming the couch, simon was watching cartoons before we met him outside UOB(CARTOONS??), alan came later.

And we crooned. Chinese, hokkien, and english songs. Yh was sammi cheng hungry after attending her concert. There was hardly any soundproofing between the rooms, and becos I was quite siao already, I blasted back at the neighbours when they sang something I liked. And how can a ktv session be successful without our high note hitter simon chua? =] Again, I noted some of our faves:

We sang for 4 hours in all! which means that I sang 7 hours yesterday. Felt like my throat was gone after that.

The real madness only surfaced after we finished at 2am. We were loitering around cuppage playing with the digital camera.. I wouldn't be surprised if the security guards thought we were hooligans =] WHy? Is it becos of the full moon? So it is said that people behave oddly on nights with a full moon, as evidenced by this dialogue

Elvin: "Hey there's a full moon tonight"
yh: "You shouldn't point at the moon"
me: "WHy?"
yh: "Cos your ears will get snipped off and .."

and by this crazy act. I hope the police won't get hold of this photo. Elvin Yio suddenly had this idea of climbing up the road sign. So, he bounded up Orchard Road, and sat on top of Orchard Road juz long enough for me to take this. Not enough of low/high wall and SOC issit? And he ran out and stood in the middle of Orchard Road waiting for cars to come after the traffic lights turned green.

Pity michael and wei tak couldn't come. ANd yeebo was on duty. ANd yiqian.. I seriously think we should have an outing with him soon yar.

Mebbe becos it's been one event after another these few days, the fact that I'm twenty now hasn't drawn upon me. I'm no longer a teenager, and this means I will have more responsibilities, more people to account to, particularly my family. My parents are nice to me, but I don't want to have to keep relying on them. ANd my frens as well. Thank you all for adding so much colour to my life, for bringing joy to me and for walking and sharing your lives with me. Thanks so much.=]

Thanks for making this birthday a memorable one. Thanks for all your well wishes through sms or icq. I guess I'm lucky that my birthday falls on a saturday huh.

Outing at Jason's place

Went to Jason's place today for his birthday celebration cum class outing. Turnout was not bad, though could have been better. sy, zhewei, eugene, dev, matt, st, sq, lily, jingyun, wy, shermin, qy. A few from junior class as well. He spent a whooping $600 on the catering! Impressive.. I received 2 nicely wrapped gifts today.. pleasant surprise. A Peanuts towel from devin and daphne, and a Mozart and a Beethoven miniature from st. THanks people! I will use the towel, but how to use a towel and maintain it so that it won't tear eventually? Haha I will try. thankew=]

I'm Turning Twenty

I'm getting old! Somehow the big number 2 in front your age makes a lot of difference. No longer a teenager. Not yet an adult. Where does that put us?

Went to crystal jade LMXLB at scotts foodcourt yesterday with victor and kim. Dunno whether it's becos they don't like us, but the servings were so small. I'm sure the taka outlet gives more la mian. After that, I finally went to buy 2 big photo albums at popular. The 276 photos I developed that time are still on my table, and I keep procrastinating. See alvin.. you should NOT procrastinate.

I had a great time today! Thanks people for celebrating with me! victor, kim, weiliang, qichang, huiting, sijin, yiqing, xinling, timo, ivan and hope. Haa feel so special today! I'm touched. Felt quite bad actually that I had to hold up people from going out or going to church, taking the trouble to buy a cake, look for a lighter.. It's a chocolate cake from bengawan solo, with 2 big candles. I think I blew too hard the happy birthday stand fell flat onto the cake.. I love the present! A red Billabong pencil case and a sling bag. I need a pencil case cos the zip of the one I'm using now juz broke last week =) Will use it in sch eh? Now I have 3 large sling bags. Converse one from yiqian and yuanhin in J1, a fake Diesel one I bought in hk, and this one chosen by 3 people who also bought something similar! haha we should all flaunt it together one day.

Qiyue specially came down to NUS to have lunch with us today! Really appreciate that =) She's leaving on tues. So soon. And she claims she managed to bluff shengyong into going JHU next year as well. Yeah, whole world going away.. Heard that there was a nike megasale and vanity fair at MPSH, so we decided to pop by. Turned out that there was no nike sale! Only vanity fair. Muz be a scam to entice people to go to the vanity fair. The girls gave it a miss, and st said she had to "go home". wy, wj, sq all had lessons. All busy people.. so only me shermin and qy were left. Off to swenson's. Their first time trying the $1.39 offer. I think half of all the flavours, nice ones like thin mint, butterscotch and mocha almond fudge, were sold out. Booo.. had to settle for other flavours but I tried passionfruit sherbet. Chatted and chatted. Seems like the scheduled class gathering would involve the juniors too.

The girls left, then I went to join carrie, leonard, geraldine at the other table. I'm losing my voice again. Having a new tution job this thurs, better recover by then. Coincidentally, the new tutee lives at cactus drive.

Ride the Wake

Went to ponggol marina with mingchang for the wakeboarding intro course today. Hah finally somewhere near my house! Course was organised by NUS wakeboard club, and quite a few experienced wakeboarders came down to coach us. Not bad. Got briefed on how to hold the handle, how to plane the board on the water, how to slowly squat then stand up.. lotsa theory, but when you actually do it, you juz do wad seems to be natural. But of course, should follow the basics. It looks hard enough. The first time I tried, I couldn't even get the board out of the water. Would either fall flat in front or backwards. And I still clung onto the rope! Not supposed to do that, I learnt later. Otherwise my arms would fly off my shoulders. Muz have fallen at least 6 times before I finally managed to squat, stand on the board, and turn the board. And then I tried to balance. Doing well. 30 s.. 1 min.. 2 min! Proud of myself. Haha the feeling was damn shuangz.. the power boat pulling so fast, gliding on the water. But frankly most of the time I was trying to balance, but I think I inadvertently crossed the wake to outside, without knowing. First attempt only, so I wanted to avoid the wake as far as possible.. but wakeboarding you're supposed to ride up the wake. Mebbe next time. Exhausting.. need to use arm and back strength. When I finally fell, it was such a hard fall forward that my board flew off my feet. Heh.

My master foot should be my right foot, but I juz feel more comfortable placing it behind and placing my left foot in front. Strange. Anyway mingchang did very well. Think he had the most water time among us. Shared the boat with 2 others from engin.. quite nice people. Pity no one wanted to learn.. this thing is thrilling! And riding in a small boat out in the open water with 3 other people is sensational. We had refreshments after that. Man.. we kept attacking the chicken wings.

Muz be all the ice cream that gave me sore throat + fever yesterday. Started on friday night actually, I was losing my voice bit by bit as I was giving tuition.

Real run today. Not bad, but the terrain sucks. Free dri-fit shirt is a nice blue colour. Met kok soon, justin, david and hong loon today. Ages since I saw them.. lunch at harbourfront hawker centre. Food there was not bad. Then went inside the mall for some air-con. Probably going back next year =)

Again

Fourth time at holland v swenson's this week. kaoz. muz stop. I juz love talking to the girls. Too bad weijie can't join us, her last day at work at popular. Respect =)

At swenson's. Subject was less than 1 metre away, back facing us, clearing a table.

"How come the waitress pants so low?"
Me: "Waiter la.."

Subject finished clearing the table, then walked past our table.

"Waitress la!"
Me: "Huh? not waiter?"

Ok I'm cock eyed. But she really looked like a guy from the back (from the front also). If not for her face, I would still think she's a guy. Sibei malu! And she was standing so near us, dunno if she overheard or not. Then after that she came and poured water for us. Rite, should be waitress.

We encountered a weird guy on the way back to the bus-stop. Crazy fella was shouting and muttering to himself in broad daylight. I actually caught wad he was saying. He was swearing at LKY! Very nasty words. We juz walked faster to the bus-stop.. lucky he went another route.

Screw it

I'm so tired but I juz can't fall asleep. Slept on the bus and kept knocking my head against the blardy window. Sucks.. actually missed guess^3 last night so that I can have more sleep, but I was juz as tired this morning. I was late. I forgot to bring my notes. Bad start to the day. Back to the usual routine of lectures and more lectures. Haven't found the momentum to study hard as yet. Today's patho lecture was shared with dentistry people. I suddenly miss the times sitting with 79 people. It's a tad too late to do that now eh. How should I put it, we were cliquish, not onz, damn bo chup, but there was still a sense of togetherness. mebbe it stops there, nothing more.

Sickening feeling. There's something that's keeping me going like clockwork; things which ought to be done, die die, will be done. Much as I loathe doing them, I disgustingly won't fail to do them. It's as if I wake up every day juz to fulfil these daily tasks. Never contemplated not doing them, or easing up. Which is a good thing.. perhaps next time in the hospitals I can be one of those people who juz do things without thinking. But dammit it's taking a toll. why can't i be like some people.. so heck care. Don't feel like it then don't have to do. Don't have to worry about protocols, rules, regulations, being tactful or mincing my words. Screw it. Somehow I can't account to myself. I have to be true to myself, but I can't afford to express such sentiments. pent-up? pissed? sad? afraid? apathetic? Go figure.

Self-pity is abominable. Don't want to fall into that.

Juz went to holland v swenson's again. Yeah, sianz, nothing to do in these long breaks between practicals. Heard that pathology practicals this term will mostly be in the late afternoons. Muz seriously think of something constructive to do then. Lectures started today. Finally, after a super long vacation.

Went to watch the fireworks competition on sunday evening. When I reached city hall mrt, the place was packed. We got to the esplanade bridge and there were already people sitting on top of the barricades. So we did the same. And all the cars really no government, juz stop on the bridge. There was this huge gang of guys who got there on a pick-up! Juz for a 5 minute display? The fireworks were impressive. Loud shots which sounded like artillery fire.

Then went to the countdown concert nearby. Couldn't see much though, cos we were standing right at the back. At first we managed to see through behind the barriers, then the police officers kept chasing us further and further away. They actually rolled down the banners and blocked our view. That was so off! Performers included Toro, yan xing shu, 5566, wang xin ling. She lip-synched. The rest were better I guess.

Trial run at Sentosa

First time running 10 k today. Shagged. Was supposed to meet hope and his frens at 7.15 at harbourfront mrt, but I overslept. Good thing my phone is always on, and he called at 6.44. Freak.. I juz hate rushing. Always believe that people rush only becos they can't help it, and I've had enough of rushing in the army. Mad rush this morning. I brushed my teeth, changed, grabbed my wallet and phone and ran to the mrt station. Didn't have my morning shit, didn't have breakfast.. Run starts at 8, so we weren't late.

Second time to Sentosa in a long time. We didn't warm-up, which was a bad decision, cos now my left heel is aching. The first 5 k was not bad, I could still keep up within the centre of the pack. But after that I couldn't make it, was juz pushing myself. At first I thought the route was not bad cos we ran on the road, then after the 5 k mark we had to run on the beach. On sand. Makes you sink in with each stride. But this is the only part of the route I was familiar with.. haa we ran on Palawan beach. Past the suspension bridge, the place we were playing frisbee, rasa sentosa. Total distance on sand was about 2.5 k. Then 1 k on the jungle trail, quite like macritchie. Then past musical fountain, then finish. Real run next week.

Rag Day today. Think many people stayed over last night to help out with any last minute things. I didn't. Then I found out jessica brought mahjong set and the guys were playing.. Justin drove them to play pool until 2 am. Too bad. The presentation this year resembled last year's. Same theme, same backdrop, same moves. Mebbe that's why we didn't win.. But Law was a strong contender. Heard that we'll be doing floats instead of presentation next year. At least something new.

Had lunch with carrie, jamie and leonard at arts canteen. Only after we finished lunch then we recalled swenson's is having a promotion. Topless 5 - 5 scoops for only $1.39! So cheap! Spread the word.. daily before 5 pm until 12 sep. I think swenson's will go bust.. so onz.. we immediately went to holland v swenson's in carrie's car. The waitress probably knew wat we were there for. And they didn't gl us for ordering 4 Topless 5 only. I had orange sherbet, mocha almond fudge, coffee, butterscotch and thin mint. Wanted to laugh when we were ordering cos seldom we get to list 5 different flavours. Everyone had a sherbet. Had a good chat. Exchanged news =) After tax and sc each one paid $1.60. But the strange thing was, the rest of the people in the restaurant were not ordering the same thing. Did they know about this promotion? It was on a big board outside leh.. should have seen it when they came in. Dunno.

Went to toa payoh to collect the nike real run bib. Trial run tomorrow. Think I will shag myself out, cos I haven't been running regularly. Cannot make it la. Then met shengyong and shiqian at CDANS to bowl. The lady at the counter was rude. But I didn't say anything. Really wanted to. Today was the first time my first throw was a strike. Juz lucky, cos after that I didn't play well, as usual.

NUS Flag Day

We were roped in to help our OG after they realised that they didn't have enough people. Finally an occasion which has some semblance of an OG affair, becos the numbers are there =) So we went to nus early in the morning. Was quite sleepy the entire day cos I slept so late.. I thought I was gonna be late, but it turned out that the meeting time was pushed back. Then the usual signing out of tins and briefing. This year's T-shirt is red, not exactly the red I like but orangey-red. I think last year's was orange. Eh.. I remember skipping flag last year to go cycling at east coast. I was wearing my comfy cat high pe shirt last year. And I had a gash while cycling that left a scar just above my left heel. Sucks. That's the only scar I have on my lower limbs. Ivan's bag string got caught in the bicycle. I think only the other 2 went home unscathed, in a way haa.

Next, we decided where to go. Eventually settled on tiong bahru.. but when we came up of the mrt station there were already Kent Ridge people there. And xiaoyun was among them. Pleasant surprise. Wad happened next was not exemplary. Haha.. we split into 2 groups. One heading to tiong bahru market to solicit donations. The other heading there for breakfast. Haven't been there since it was renovated. Yeah, go there muz eat the chwee kuay.

After breakfast, 4 of us roamed further out. I found out that you should try to call a lady xiao jie instead of auntie as far as possible, unless she's a senior citizen. Mebbe if she finds it flattering enough she will reach for her purse. Ladies are more generous than men. There was one auntie who was very kind.. she donated to both weiliang and I, kept wishing us well.

HC Homecoming

Went down to hc today for the homecoming carnival. We were there so early.. cos sy had to leave for camp. Met a lot of people today. First person was Miss Ooi! Our dear chem tutor has become a da mei ren, I'm not sarcastic ah.. but really, she looks so much more presentable now. Wonder wad propelled her to make such a change, but it's a good change! Anyway I also used to look very toot in jc haha.. mebbe now not much better haa.

Hwa Chong will be called Hwa Chong Institution, chinese is hua qiao zhong xue. Arghz. Why do the board not see that this naming sucks? Ok I admit I'm not a tchs fan but nevertheless, the chinese name is not appropriate.

There were more unfamiliar than familiar faces. Played at the choir booth, got 900 points so I chose a pooh bear that was wearing a blue and white striped shirt similar to a long sleeved shirt I have. At least didn't come home empty handed.

Devin came later. Sorry.. never turn up for your comms parade. But I'm not as important mah.

Eh.. michael and kaimun came too. They can't stay put at one place, eventually I had to find them at ke ai ji. Weida! 2LT Choo is looking good. He's doing more paperwork than chiong swa.

Bought bbq stuff with wen hann, jess, carrie and kailin at ntuc, then went to west coast for the OG bbq. Small turnout, but still a success hah. Stayed at macs until quite late. I think I'm going to have a sore throat.
