How exotic! Dinner at mandai orchid gardens to celebrate Kailin's bday. My first time there..it's actually beside the zoo hah. They actually booked the entire place? I dunno.. but normally visitors have to pay to enter and tour the place but when we went there in the evening there were no visitors and we could roam the garden.

Bday gal and the cake. THe cake's for her 2 other sisters as well they celebrated together what a close family=]

Doing psychomed now. The profs are nice and they enjoy teaching us. One thing i noticed.. they're all somewhat flamboyant, witty and more outgoing and sociable. Certainly not the quiet or introverted types. Is that why they make good psychiatrists? You gotta know how to talk to your patients well at least. They do nothing else but talk and chat!! Scary in a way.. juz by conversing with you briefly they will know your personality. My tutor is a hypnotherapist. I always thought that was hocus pocus but it apparently isn't. Wonder if we'll see her in action. That aside i think the patients are pitiful. Having a psychiatric illness isn't like any other medical condition. You don't get it by drinking, smoking or leading an unhealthy lifestyle. It really isn't the patient's fault that his parents gave him bad genes, or that he suffered a major setback in his life, that he had a traumatic childhood, or that his personality in a way predisposes him to getting a disorder. They are living in their own world. And.. they're largely incurable. Most need lifelong treatment.

I'm convinced i had a personality disorder after listening to the lectures... everything juz fits! But that was in the past. It's so easy to start labelling people after hearing what the tutors tell us. worry too much.. anxiety disorder. mug thru the night and still have energy the next day.. hypomaniac. Which reminds me.. we met nicholas who's doing archi now. He spent the night doing his project. Met him again the next day and he was still in the same attire. "Quite fun" he says. "It's very common in archi" So he spent both sat and sun in NUS. Yeah he enjoys what he's doing which is good. Honestly I admire such people. So full of drive. I dun wish to be a hypomaniac but i think i'm slacking tooo much.

Here are photos of the SGH/CGH people

After tuition today, I went to the coffeeshop across the road from my place. With specs, berms, sandals and backpack. Queued up to buy nasi lemak. Unbeknownst to me, someone else was behind me in the queue.

She thought she knew me. But she wasn't sure. She wanted to call my name. But she was afraid of making a mistake.

I bought my food. And I turned around, which gave her a chance to look at me...

It was Mrs Neo.

What a pleasant surprise!! She lives across the road. So I had lunch with her and Nina. Yeah. To think Nina was still in utero then. She's 6 now.

Hey wanyi thx for that bit of info. I'll prolly be knocked out for a week or so..hah. I'm getting it done on wed.

Test over. And it's the last week of surgery. If I were an empty glass at the start of the posting, I'm prolly only quarter filled now. Cos I've done minimal reading. Wadever I know so far is largely from the tutorials. So freakin shagged every day. And they won't let us off on Saturday!! It's a sheer torture to drag myself outta bed on sat mornings juz for that hour or so lecture. That being said, i do enjoy my time in the wards. Not to mention some of the conferences and rounds that we attend.. it's like a mini parliament. It's a time when all the docs have to be accountable for their decisions.

Regarding the 2 bloggers who're going to jail, I thought the verdict was a tad too harsh.
